At 10:40 on 2025-03-24, the main water pipeline in Jönköping burst causing major flooding. An estimated 2,800 cubic meters [2,000 liters per second] of water gushed out of the main water pipeline causing severe damage to several shops, restaurants and hotels in the area around the leak.

In connection with this the street was so undermined that it collapsed and created a 10 square meter sinkhole.

The repair of the main water pipeline and the sinkhole can take up to a a few days and cost several million.
